Water jet technology involves ejecting a jet of water at very high pressure from the cutting head, at three times the speed of sound. This action is achieved by forcing water through a very thin calibrated nozzle, with a diameter usually ranging from 0.1 to 0.4 mm. In detail, the water cutting tool is a sort of injector (or cutting head) that receives at its entrance a flow of water at very high pressure from an intensifier pump, which pushes it on through very strong metal pipes; typically this tool is self-aligning, thanks to a digital control unit that acts on a multi-axis motorised system.
